I was thinking all that's avaliable now is Dexron III and maybe IV?
Anyways it's for a 1991 S-10 4X4 5 speed manual. Think I'm going to try to make sure it's topped off or change the fluid.
It struck me as a surprise, I would think a gear oil like used in the rear differential is what you'd use in a manual transmission gear box..????
Whatever the owner's manual says. Some manual boxes specify automatic transmission fluid. Obviously you'd use whatever Dexron equivalent is available today, since they're reverse-compatible.
'Most' manual gearboxes are pretty durable. You could probably load it full of gear oil or other lubes, and it would be fine. But it might shift like crap, or be awfully stiff in cold weather, or crash gears.
Better to just use the right stuff to begin with. Use the newest Dexron fluid.
